Archbishop Andrews Thazhath was born at Pudukkad, Trichur on Dec. 13, 1951. He was ordained priest at Nandhikkara for the eparchy of Trichur on March 14, 1977 and was nominated auxiliary bishop of Trichur and titular bishop of Aptuca on March 19, 2004, by Pope Jon Paul II. He was ordained bishop on May 1, 2004, at Lourde's Metropolitan Cathedral, Trichur. He was nominated metropolitan archbishop of Trichur, succeeding Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, on Jan. 22, 2007, and was installed on March 18, 2007, by Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil. He is the president of the Oriental Canon Law Society of India.
In addition to his current duties, archbishop Thazhath served as the Apostolic Administrator of the Major Archeparchy of Ernakulam–Angamaly from July 30, 2022 to Dec. 7, 2023.
