Religious Institutes of Men in the diocese before the Korean War
  • Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers, entrusted to manage the diocese by the Holy See in 1922. All were repatriated by Japanese colonialists in 1942.
Religious Institutes of Women in the diocese before the Korean War
  • Congregation of Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, served in Pyongyang from 1909 to 1945.
  • Maryknoll Sisters, served from 1924 and were repatriated by Japanese colonialists in 1942.
  • Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help:
    The first Korean Religious congregation of women established in 1932 by Monsignor John Morris, the second apostolic prefect. The sisters fled to the South in 1950 and have been engaging in various apostolates there.
