Nuns from a central province weekly visit and provide free medical checkups for tens of thousands of patients in remote areas. “We have given free medical checkups and medicine to tens of thousands of poor patients in remote areas during the past 15 years,” said Daughters of Mary of Immaculate Conception Sister Benedictine Nguyen Thi Dien, a doctor. Sister Dien, 69, said local people live in poverty and do not have enough money to buy medicine or take patients to local health care centers. They use leaves to treat all diseases. Sister Dien, head of Kim Long Charity Clinic based in Hue city, said on Saturdays 15 doctors and physicians with medical equipment and medicine go by bus and give health care to 150-200 patients in villages in Thua Thien Hue province. They pay 40 such visits a year, she added. They said foreign benefactors cover their expenses. Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
