Rohingya in Bangladesh (Part I)

The brutal military crackdown in Myanmar's Rakhine State, in response to the Aug. 25 attacks by Rohingya militants on security check posts saw about 3,000 killed, dozens of women raped and hundreds of Rohingya villages burned by Myanmar military and extremist Buddhists. The conflict forced more than 500,000 Rohingya to resort to a perilous journey by foot and by boat to flee to Bangladesh for safety.

Apart from killings, hundreds Rohingya were wounded by military firing and machete attacks from Rakhine vigilante groups. The injured and sick Rohingya —men, women, children and elderly — now languish in makeshift camps in Cox’s Bazar district, just across the Naf River that separates Bangladesh and Myanmar.
