Born in Schiedam, Holland, she was one of nine children to her poor parents. After she was severely injured in an ice-skating accident at age 16, her broken rib caused gangrene to set in and she became paralyzed and suffered for decades. During this time, she spent her time praying, meditating, and offering her pain to God and developed a devotion to the Eucharist.
She participated in Christ’s Passion, and was visited by saints. There is also a belief that that her only food for her last 19 years was the Eucharist. Miracles occurred at her bed side. Lidwina died at the age of 53. She is known as the patron saint of ice skaters.
Today\'s continuation of our Easter celebration is a joyous proclamation of the great love God shows in calling us to be united with Christ. It is a day to look at our faults and failings and put them in perspective.
