The Lord came to restore sight to the blind. Jesus insisted that it was a sin to claim a clear sight when one was blind. So many people are rigid and dogmatic in their opinions and convictions, refusing to see or consider anything else.

Lord, have mercy on me

Sometimes people are slow to understand their negative behaviour. Often it is a rude shock — such as a negative experience — that awakens us to the truth.

The scribe not only accepted what Jesus said, but he even acknowledged that these commandments were more important than temple sacrifices.

Saint Joseph, guard us in our life’s pilgrimage on earth

Being sensitive to God, Joseph would have realized that Mary’s pregnancy could not be the result of infidelity and must, somehow, be from God.

Lord, help me be obedient to You

Through his life and teachings, Jesus came to reveal the true meaning of the laws and customs of the Old Testament. He explains what the law and the prophets wished to say, and in this way, Jesus brings the Old Testament to its fulfilment. By this, Jesus appears as the authoritative interpreter of the Jewish tradition.

Idols are empty. They have no power to lead us to perfection and could not satisfy our deepest needs. Only God can fulfil us completely.

God shows mercy to all. He also noted that a prophet is seldom thought well of by his people. Sometimes people outside the house of faith are more open and more grateful.

Lord, let me experience blessings and hope in my life

Suffering is bitter and often intensely painful. In God’s hands, however, pain can be transformed. It can lead to life. God has brought life from death.

Lord, help me trust in You alone

The Season of Lent is an opportune time for us to reflect on, and repent of our sins. It means not only repenting of sins of commission — the wrongs we have committed but also being sorry for the many sins of omission — those that we have failed to do, especially for others.

Lord, teach us to live good lives, encourage us with Your support

Let us remember the heroic examples of Jeremiah and the Psalmist when we find ourselves in impossible situations in our lives.

Humility is a sign that one's heart is with God. If we use our religion to lord it over others or to inflate our ego, then our hearts are far from God.

Jesus also urges us to be real sons and daughters of the Most High by being just as merciful and loving as God is. No judgement; no preferential treatment; no conditions — just love, just like God!

Holy Spirit, teach us to listen to Jesus, the Beloved Son

There is a great deal of theology in all the passages dealing with the Transfiguration and surrounding passages. So it is by listening to Jesus that we deepen our knowledge of Him and the Father.

May the Season of Lent help us grow in awareness of the link between the two rules of conduct and to live accordingly.

Lord, help me to be ever faithful to You

Jesus affirmed his trust in God and his resolve to be obedient. They are what we face every day. Let us remember who weare and who our heavenly Father is.
