Pilgrims flock to saint's shrine in Bangladesh

St. Anthony of Padua shrine is the most popular Catholic shrine in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

The devotion to St. Anthony at Panjora village in Gazipur district has been held uninterrupted for centuries. Many people believe a small statue of the Portuguese saint in a chapel has miraculous powers to grant their wishes.

On the annual pilgrimage day on Feb. 7, more than 70,000 devotees flocked to the shrine to pray and pay respects to the saint.
