Kashmir's struggling farmers get church help with alternative farming

The Catholic Social Service Society is helping struggling Indian farmers to withstand the effects of climate change.

Farmers receive training in the cultivation of mushrooms, marigolds, strawberries and other cash crops with the help of the government’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra farm science centers.

The program trains people in soil health and fertility management, water management, crop management, plant protection, kitchen gardens, horticultural nurseries, and vegetable and fruit production. The initiative has so far trained 2,409 farmers and set up 35 farmers’ collectives.
