Bangladeshi Muslims gather for peace January 23, 2020

Tens of thousands of Muslims from all over Bangladesh and abroad took part in prayers and preaching from prominent Islamic clerics on the banks of the River Turag at Tongi in Gazipur district.

The three-day Bishwa Ijtema, organized by the local chapter of Tablighi Jamaat (Society for Propagation of Faith), an orthodox Sunni Islamic movement, has been held annually since 1949.

Muslim devotees pray for peace in the world and fraternity of the Muslim community. Islamic clerics believe the gathering spreads the message to the world that Islam is a religion of peace, love and harmony.
