Valentine´s Day ´gift´ of new bishop

Lahore archdiocese received a special gift from Pope Benedict XVI on Feb. 14. On that day, celebrated as Valentine´s Day around the world, he appointed Franciscan Father Sebastian Shah as auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese. "This is a special Valentine´s gift from the Holy Father!" Father Andrew Nisari, the archdiocese´s vicar general declared, adding that Father Shah will be episcopally ordained after Easter. The bishop-elect was born in a Christian village of Sindh province in 1957, and ordained in 1991. He was formerly provincial of the Order of Friars Minor in Pakistan and president of the major religious superiors´ conference here from 2003 to 2008. He will assist Archbishop Lawrence John Saldanha. END
