Caritas Internationalis has launched an appeal for $600,000 to ensure the continuing success of Caritas Nepal´s high school program in Nepal for Bhutanese refugees. In its recent appeal the Vatican-based Catholic aid organization said that over the past 15 years more than 100,000 Bhutanese refugees have lived in camps managed by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Since 1992, the UNHCR has delegated responsibility for secondary and higher education for refugees to Caritas Nepal. This year some funds have been redirected, and Caritas Nepal is facing a shortfall. "We need to continue these programs, especially since they´re aimed at children of a very sensitive age," said Father Silas Bogati, the organization´s executive director.(Zenit)

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
November begins with the Feast of All Saints. That month will mark the beginning of a new UCA News series, Saints of the New Millenium, that will profile some of Asia’s saints, “ordinary” people who try to live faithfully amid the demands of life in our time.
Perhaps the closest they will ever come to fame will be in your reading about them in UCA News. But they are saints for today. Let their example challenge and encourage you to live your own sainthood.
Your contribution will help us present more such features and make a difference in society by being independent and objective.
A small donation of US$5 a month would make a big difference in our quest to achieve our goals.
