Kirtan (Carol) is a popular musical tradition during Christmas in Bangladesh. It has origins in the traditional Bengali Hindu religious practices but has evolved into Christian music over time.
During the Christmas season, Bengali and ethnic indigenous Catholics in various parts of Bangladesh perform kirtan in groups, in their villages and contests.
On Dec. 16, 2019, the Christian Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (CCCUL), organized the kirtan competition, for the third consecutive year, which drew 17 teams from various parts of the country.
