Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, retired archbishop of Hong Kong has criticized the Vatican's silence over Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin's recant of his 2012 decision to resign from the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association.

"Yes, the Vatican should clarify and give guidance, for the truth, for justice and for the good moral of love. They should protect the church's reputation, Bishop Ma's reputation, and eradicate the chaos and dejection in the Chinese church. Not saying anything is irresponsible," Cardinal Zen wrote on his blog on June 22 reported the Hong Kong Free Press said.

Bishop Ma wrote in his controversial June 12 blog post that he regretted resigning from the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association. The Shanghai bishop also praised the government-sanctioned association that exercises state supervision of Catholics in China.

Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
