Use social media to 'spread love'

Archbishop Petrus Turang of Kupang is urging Catholics to make more use of social media to spread the values of love and truth. By doing this mankind can promote human dignity, the chairman of the bishops’ Commission for Social Communication told a national conference of diocesan social communication commissions being held July 17-22 in Kupang, capital of East Nusa Tenggara province. He suggested Catholics use the rapid growth of this form of communication to create better understanding and a sense of brotherhood among human beings. According to the archbishop, social media is important in overcoming differences and resolving conflicts. “Gaudere cum gaudentibus flere cum flentibus. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep,” he told the gathering.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
November begins with the Feast of All Saints. That month will mark the beginning of a new UCA News series, Saints of the New Millenium, that will profile some of Asia’s saints, “ordinary” people who try to live faithfully amid the demands of life in our time.
Perhaps the closest they will ever come to fame will be in your reading about them in UCA News. But they are saints for today. Let their example challenge and encourage you to live your own sainthood.
Your contribution will help us present more such features and make a difference in society by being independent and objective.
A small donation of US$5 a month would make a big difference in our quest to achieve our goals.
