A member of the Muslim minority Ahmadiyya community was shot dead in a targeted attack in Karachi, Pakistan June 20, police said.

Chaudhry Khaleeq Ahmad, 45, a practicing homeopathic doctor, was targeted inside his clinic in the city's Malir district.

Father Pascal Paulus, president of the Catholic Religious Superiors Leadership Conference of Pakistan, condemned the murder. "Unfortunately, the Ahmadi community is suffering the most out of all the religious minorities," he said.

"Doctor Khaliq was attending to his patients when two gunmen entered his clinic," Rao Anawar, a senior police officer at Malir, told ucanews.com. "They asked for him and shot him once in the head at close range… it was mostly likely a sectarian hit."

Saleem ud Din, a spokesman for the Ahmadi community, condemned the attack. "This is the second incident within a month," Din said, referring to Dawood Ahmad, 55, who was also killed in Karachi.

"Many Ahmadis have been targeted," he said. "The authorities are well aware but there is no action."

Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
