Violence in western Myanmar’s Arakan state has driven hundreds of Rohingyas to seek shelter in makeshift camps in the capital Sitwe. San Kyaw Hla of the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party said today that seven camps had been hastily organized and that efforts were being made to provide food and water from local donors to about 400 people who have so far taken up residence. Seven people were killed over the weekend and 17 were injured, according to state media, which said that about 500 homes were also burned.
