A large number of Pakistani Christians protested outside the Thai embassy in the Netherlands to raise awareness on the plight of Pakistani Christian asylum seekers in Thailand.
The protesters called for justice and speedy handling procedures of Pakistani Christian asylum seekers in Thailand. Speakers highlighted the difficulties faced by asylum seekers and demanded they be given respect, protection and justice.
A petition calling for the fair treatment of asylum seekers was received by Thai officials at the embassy.
There are 11,500 registered Pakistani asylum seekers in Thailand, according to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR. The community has little access to legal and other services, local aid workers said.
