Pray for firefighters "so they can be safe from harm when answering the call of duty," Father Randy Balisno, himself a fireman, has told Filipinos at the start of "Fire Prevention Month ". Fire Prevention Month is observed every March in the Philippines, at the start of the hot season when most fires occur. "Every time firefighters respond to incidents, they also risk their lives. So we should pray for them," said the chaplain of the Philippines' Bureau of Fire Protection. Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna in Manila says there is an acute shortage of fire trucks in the capital. Only last month a five-year-old child died and some 2,000 families lost their homes in a five-hour blaze that destroyed around 500 houses in Quezon City. PM13479.1643
