Manas Makeen believes that Sri Lanka’s general election must be postponed for at least three months.

The executive director of Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) says it is practically impossible for all parties, candidates and independent groups to set up an equal field to run their election campaigns in the current situation.

Some religious leaders, political parties and rights activists are also urging the Sri Lankan government to postpone the election as the country is not in a position to hold polls due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Covid-19 seems to be spreading at an increased rate and the calling of an election might have disastrous consequences," said Makeen.
