Poland waives visa fees for Indian World Youth Day participants

The Polish embassy in New Delhi has announced it would waive visa fees for Indian Catholics attending upcoming World Youth Day programs in Krakow.

"It is a historic day for all of us as this will be the second time we are hosting the event," Polish ambassador Tomasz Lukaszuk said of the event, scheduled for July 26-31.

Italian Archbishop Salvatire Pennacchio, the Vatican's nuncio to India ucanews.com that St. John Paul II "loved the youth very much, he saw in them the future church hence he started World Youth day."

Founded in 1985, the weeklong program include seminars, prayer meetings retreats and cultural parades. It initially was celebrated every two years and is now held every three years.

During the 2013 World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Pope Francis announced Krakow as venue of the 2016 event.
