The head of a foundation caring for autistic children appealed yesterday for help to rebuild its two schools in Kupang which were damaged by fire last month. Sister Redempta, head of the Bina Wirawan Foundation managed by the Sisters of the Followers of Christ, said the foundation could not afford the rebuilding project since the cost of the damage from the fire, which was allegedly caused by a short-circuit,was about 500 million rupiah (US$55,000). “The fire damaged eight classrooms, the office of the Assumption of Mary kindergarten, the school for children with autism, and the foundation’s office. It left us with nothing. We need support or help from many parties to rebuild the buildings,” she said. The foundation also could not ask the students’ parents for donations because they have paid their children’s school fees, she said.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
