Reverend Dhiloraj Ranjit Canagasabey has been elected the new bishop for the Anglican Colombo diocese. He was elected to the post by a majority of the 91 priests and 242 lay delegates who came from across the country for the election at Cathedral of Christ the Living Savior in Colombo on March 5. He succeeds Bishop Bishop Duleep de Chickera who held the office for the past 10 years. Bishop-elect Canagasabey, 55, will be consecrated bishop on May 14. “My wife is a Sinhalese. I am a Tamil. I can see the common identity in my children. It would be strengthening to do work such as reconciliation and healing with different communities in our Church,” Bishop Canagasabey said. Methsiri Dias, a member of the Colombo diocesan council pointed out that Bishop Dhiloraj studied at a Roman Catholic school and has good relations with Catholic bishops and other Church leaders.
