Manila archbishop announces new construction guidelines

All proposals exceeding $4K will need cardinal's approval

April 13, 2016
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila announced new procedures for any major archdiocesan building or renovation programs with a cost estimate in excess of US$4,000.

In a letter to pastors, school directors, and institutional heads, he revealed the establishment of an engineering department that will assist the archdiocese in the construction or renovation of church facilities.

He said the archdiocese felt the want of professional guidance and direction in this area “since as priests and religious, construction is not our main competence.”

“Thus, our engineering department will help ease our concerns,” said Cardinal Tagle.

The cardinal’s statement said that all construction projects will have to be reviewed and approved by the cardinal with the help of the archdiocese’s properties administration department.
