Life as a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh

More than 723,000 ethnic Rohingya have fled from Myanmar's Rakhine State to Bangladesh since August 2017.

They have sought to escape the Myanmar military's crackdown which was a response to attacks by Rohingya militants.

Smaller numbers of Rohingya have trickled into Bangladesh since the 1970s. The Rohingya have been denied citizenship and basic human rights in the country of their birth.

Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh hosts more than 400,000 Rohingya refugees.

Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a refugee repatriation deal last year but to date not a single Rohingya has been repatriated.
