With this year marking the 50th anniversary of his episcopacy, Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk of Seoul chose to present a complete collection of his 58 books to his alma mater, Chungang High School in Seoul.
A book donation ceremony was held on July 9 at the cardinal’s office in Hyehwa-dong, Seoul.
It was attended by Father Matthias Hur Young-yup (vice-chairman of Seoul Archdiocese's committee for communications), school principal Kim Chong Phil and reporters from the Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation (CPBC) and The Catholic Times.
After the ceremony, the collection was delivered to Chungang High School’s library, where it was hailed by students as a special gift from the cardinal.
Cardinal Cheong, 88, served as the third archbishop of Seoul from 1998 until retirement in 2012.
A prolific author, he has written 58 books including The Great Mission: Collaborators of the Savior (2019), We Have been Healed through His Wounds (2015) and Annotated Code of Canon Law (1988-2002).
The 15-volume Annotated Code of Canon Law, which the cardinal wrote over a period of 15 years, has been a valuable asset for the Korean Catholic Church as it provides Korean translations and annotations of the new code promulgated in 1983 by St. Pope John Paul II.
