MYANMAR: Over 5,000 Catholics from Myitkyina and Banmaw dioceses in Myanmar recently gathered to celebrate a Marian feast day and pray for a village community under threat from a hydroelectric power project. The celebration of Our Lady of Lourdes feast at Tang Hpre village’s historic Marian Grotto was held at Our Lady, Queen of Heaven Church, near the Kachin state capital Myitkyina on February 11. About 800 families are facing the prospect of being relocated from their homes to make way for the project. “We prayed for a miracle for the villagers of Tang Hpre, who are saddened by their current situation,” said diocesan Priest father Paul Lat. Many of the families have lived here for generations, he said. MY13262.1641
