Christians elected to local government bodies in nationwide elections say they will keep their pre-election pledges and work according to public demands. At least 15 Christians, mostly Catholics have been elected or re-elected as member of Union Parishad (UP), the grassroots local government body. Reginado Sarker, 44, a Catholic UP member elected for the fifth time said serving as a UP member is the vocation for his life. “Leading arbitrations is tough, but I try to be patient to make all parties realize what’s right. As a minority leader I need to keep good relations with government and NGO officials to win their favor for people,” he said.
