Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar will officially hand over the presidency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to his successor Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma this week. The handover rites will take place during the joint meeting of outgoing and incoming members of the CBCP Permanent Council at the CBCP Building in Intramuros, Manila, on December 1. “There will be a turnover of the documents and also of other pending matters,” Bishop Odchimar told reporters today. He said he has no words of advice to Archbishop Palma, convinced that the latter would be able to successfully fulfill his new role as CBCP president. “My successor is my present vice president, so he knows already the pending issues,” said Odchimar. As to his plans, the Tandag prelate said he plans to concentrate on his diocese and perform his pastoral duties. “I have to catch up. I left a lot of obligations and responsibilities in my diocese, such as the pastoral visitations. I have to visit the parishes and the barrios.”

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
