Christians in Chhattisgarh are lauding the appointment of a tribal Catholic as the Indian state’s chief information commissioner. State Governor Shekhar Dutt appointed Serjius Minj to the post on April 1. The ruling pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party that rules the state had recommended Minj for the post, which is based in in Raipur, the state capital. “I am very happy with the appointment. The government has acknowledged his integrity and honesty,” said Father T. Francis, parish priest of Raipur Cathedral said. The post was created by the federal government under the 2005 Right to Information Act to provide the people information about the government. IC13876.1648
