Seven choirs performed in a concert on Monday to mark the centenary of the Republic of China and Kaohsiung diocese’s golden jubilee. The concert held at the Kaohsiung Cultural Center was just one of many celebratory events taking place throughout this year. “Catholics from the mountains and the plain and from the city to the countryside have come here to sing their songs to bless this country and its people,” said Archbishop Peter Liu Cheng-chung of Kaohsiung in a speech before the concert began. Seminarians and priests from the Taiwan Theological College and Seminary sang in Latin and Italian whereas young Catholics from the Holy Rosary Minor Basilica-Cathedral performed their own compositions. An indigenous choir, a children’s choir and a couple more sang in later performances. Related reports Kaohsiung to mark special birthday Church bells to ring out for Republic of China
