The Catholic Medical Center network in Korea is joining up with the Um Hong Gil Human Foundation to help poor people in Nepal. The center signed an agreement with the foundation on Monday to provide medical aid to the foundations schools in Nepal. The foundation was set up in May, 2008 by renowned Korean mountain climber Um Hong-gil, the first person to climb the world’s 16 highest peaks. The medical center is to train doctors for the foundation’s Human School Project which has built two primary schools and plans to construct 14 more in the Himalayan country. Father Remigio Lee Dong-ik, president of the center, said: “The foundation will practise its love for humanity while our center will do its missionary work by providing medical services overseas.” Related report ‘Catholic hospital at the service of the poor’ KO14363

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
