About 5,000 people joined the annual "Walk with Mary" in the central Philippine city of Cebu to mark the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sept. 8.
As early as four in the morning, people started to assemble outside in the city's uptown area together with 26 carriages that bear images of Mary and of St. Joseph.
The more than two-kilometer religious procession this year also marked the 150th anniversary of the arrival in the Philippines of the "Children of Mary Immaculate" organization.
Candles were lit and the Holy Rosary was recited as devotees walked toward the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, where a Holy Mass was later celebrated by Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu.
In his homily, the prelate expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Mary.
