Vietnamese kids toil during summer

Many children from poor families in rural and remote areas in Vietnam have to work hard in summer months to support their families and make money to cover expenses for the coming school year.

They do manual and grueling work at construction sites, garbage dumps, farms and sea. Others sell goods at markets and herd cattle on fields and forests.

They lack food, clothes and other basic needs, and have no opportunities to enjoy summer activities.

Summer holidays last from June to August.

Many of them also work to support their families after classes during the school year.

Vietnam records 1.75 million child laborers, accounting for nearly ten percent of the country’s total children.
