Taize International Meeting of Young Adults in Hong Kong

It was the first time the Taize Community has organized a Taize International Meeting of Young Adults in Hong Kong. The meeting was held from Aug. 8 to 12.

Prior to this, brothers and volunteers from overseas were in Hong Kong for three to six months, sharing life with Hong Kong people and preparing for the meeting. They  visited churches of different denominations and led communion prayers.

Ten Taize brothers were in Hong Kong for the meeting, including the prior of the community, Brother Alois Leser.

About 2,700 participants were from more than 40 countries or regions, including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, India, and Indonesia. More than 300 host families welcomed 700 pilgrims.

Afternoon and evening prayers were held simultaneously in the Cathedral Church of St. John the Evangelist, the oldest Anglican church in the Far East, and the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

In other sessions, there were workshops related to faith, church, environmental protection, and music. Participants also visited the Hong Kong Museum of History for a better insight into local culture.

The aim of the meeting was to build bridges among people and achieve a sense of unity.
