Nepal welcomes Archbishop Diquattro

Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, apostolic nuncio to India and Nepal since 2017, made his second apostolic visit to Nepal and celebrated Mass at the Assumption Cathedral in Kathmandu on Sept. 21.

He was welcomed by Bishop Paul Simick and the traditionally dressed Nepali Panchakanya (five young girls) at the entrance, while parishioners organized a cake-cutting ceremony.

Separately, the sixth anniversary of Pope Francis' pontificate and Holy See National Day were celebrated at an event on Sept. 22.

Religious leaders and representatives of Nepali government offices and diplomatic missions attended, while Nepal’s Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun was the chief guest.

Diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Holy See were established in 1983.
