Mother Mary honored with 'lechon' parade

In La Loma district of Quezon City in the Philippines, people pay tribute to "Nuestra Senora de Salvacion" (Our Lady of Salvation) with a unique parade of roasted pigs called "lechon."

Street dancing, a banquet of "lechon" in the streets of the district, and the grand procession of the patron saint highlighted this year's festival, which fell on May 20.

"Lechon," which is roasted whole pig characterized by its crispy skin and juicy meat, is one of the most popular Filipino dishes.

La Loma district has been dubbed the country's "lechon capital" because of its rows of shops offering roasted pigs enticingly displayed on the sidewalk.
