May Day in Bangladesh May 01, 2018

Bangladesh has 160 million plus people. Nearly 80 percent of them live in rural areas and about 60 percent of them rely on agriculture for their livelihood. However, over the past four decades since independence in 1971, the nation has seen a boom in small and large-scale industrialization leading to various types of labor-intensive industrial jobs.

The industrial labor sector is poorly regulated and many workers have to deal with inadequate working conditions including low wages and a lack of occupation safety measures.

Ucanews.com documents life and struggle of Bangladeshi agricultural and industrial workers on the occasion of May Day 2018.
