Life under the shadow of climate change in Bangladesh

Bangladesh, located on the floodplains of the world’s largest river delta system that empties into the Bay of Bengal, is among the most vulnerable nations for global warming-induced climate change impacts.

In recent years, climate change has gradually increased the frequency of natural disasters like cyclones, sea level rises, intrusions of saline water and scarcity of water for drinking and irrigation in the southern coastal region.

Climate scientists fear that more than 20 million people could be displaced by the rising sea in Bangladesh by 2050.

With support from the government and NGOs, villagers in Shyamnagar in Satkhira district have taken measures to adapt to climate change impacts.
