Indonesian tribe starts whaling season with religious rituals

Before the whaling season — from May to October  — fishermen from Lamalera, a tiny island in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province hold three days of rituals. During these days, the fisherfolk communities — mostly Catholics — pack the shore to recite prayers and observe proceedings to honor dead fishermen and call on God to give them a successful season.
