Deadly landslide hits Catholic majority isle in Indonesia

Landslides and floods struck West Manggarai district on Catholic majority of Flores Island on March 7, in which a Catholic family of eight was killed. About 2,000 villagers were forced to flee their homes and three people were injured.

Church groups are providing assistance to the victims.

The disaster has also damaged agricultural land and paralyzed main roads connecting Labuan Bajo, the district capital with other areas of Flores, which officials say will take weeks to get back to normal.
