The Catholic Church observed the golden jubilee of the birth of Bangladesh by honoring Christians who fought the War of Independence from Pakistan in 1971.
On Dec. 10, all Catholic churches held special Masses to pay tribute to martyrs of the liberation war and to pray for the welfare of the nation.
On Dec. 11, church leaders in the presence of government officials conferred special honors to 75 Christians including former guerrilla fighters, clergy, religious and laypeople for their significant roles during the war.
