Art festival by Indonesian inmates April 29, 2018

About 450 prisoners — including children — from 50 prisons across Indonesia have participated in an art festival.

The event — the first of its kind — was organized in Jakarta on April 23-24 by the government. Male and female inmates performed dances, theatrical shows and painting exhibitions.

Minister of Law and Human Rights Yassona Laoly said the event was held to show society that prison does not limit inmates in expressing their creativity. It is also was aimed at showing that prison is not a place for criminals but for people who want to change.
