Anti-Ahok protests recalled at Jakarta rally

More than 100,000 Muslims from across Indonesia took part in a rally called "212 Reunion" on Dec. 2 at the National Monument in Jakarta.

The "212" refers to Dec. 2, 2016 when thousands of Muslim hardliners demanded that Jakarta’s former governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, be arrested for blasphemy. Purnama, an ethnic Chinese Protestant, was later sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of insulting the Quran.

Mostly dressed in white, many at the rally  carried black and white flags with the text of the tauhid — the core of the Islamic faith expressing the belief in God being the one and only God.
