Filipinos mark Marian feast with pomp

Every year, days before Christmas, Filipinos mark the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast day of the Philippines, where a bill has been passed in Congress declaring Dec. 8 of every year a special non-working holiday.

In Manila, a much-anticipated gathering of Marian devotees is held through a "Grand Marian Procession," every first Sunday of December.

The three-kilometer procession of over 100 elaborately-adorned carriages bearing the images of the Blessed Mother has become an annual attraction.

Many from all over the country join in the festive event.
