Slain Filipino priest laid to rest

Catholic priest Richmond Villaflor Nilo, the second priest in Nueva Ecija province to killed by gunmen in the past six months, was laid to rest on Friday, June 15.

An estimated 15,000 people, including seminarians, nuns, priests, and bishops, joined the funeral procession despite the rain.

During the funeral Mass, the priest's coffin was placed on the floor of the church in front of the altar, with a Bible and a Crucifix on top.

Bishop Sofronio Bancud of Cabanatuan said that priests have been attacked in the history of Christianity "but it will never stop clergymen from proclaiming the Gospel."

Father Nilo was the third priest to be killed in just six months.
