Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Marius Joseph Peiris was born on Oct. 11, 1941 at Katukurunda in Moratuwa. He was ordained a priest on Jan. 25, 1972. Pope John Paul II appointed him as the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo and his Episcopal ordination was on Feb. 3, 2001.
Bishop Marius was the Rector of the National Seminary and was the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Bishops' Conference and various Episcopal commissions: member of the catholic national commission for seminaries, clergy, religious and secular institutes. At present, he is chairman of Catholic National Commission for Social Communication.
