The Church in Asia lost two cardinals in less than two months this year.

Cardinal Cornelius Sim, a new cardinal in Asia and the first of Brunei, died on May 29. He was 69.

Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, 89, former archbishop of Seoul and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, passed away on April 27.

Bishop Ramon B. Villena was born on March 16, 1939 in Ilagan, Isabela. He was ordained a priest on March 30, 1963, and was appointed by Pope John Paul II Auxiliary Bishop of Tagum on March 16, 1982. His episcopal ordination was on July 2, 1982. On Aug. 17, 1985, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Bayombong. Bishop Villena was installed Bishop of Bayombong by succession on Sept. 15, 1986.
