Bishop Philip Banchong Chaiyara , CSsR, was born on Jan. 30, 1945, in Chang Ming Phanna Nikhom district, Sakon Nakhon province.

He became a member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) on Aug. 2, 1969. He studied philosophy at the Holy Redeemer College in Waterford, Wisconsin, U.S.A., and theology at Mount St. Alphonsus Seminary at Esopus, New York. On June 12, 1975, he was ordained a priest, and on March 25, 2006, he was appointed bishop. On June 27, 2006, he was ordained bishop for the Diocese of Ubon Ratchathani. Before his appointment as the diocesan prelate, Bishop Banchong worked from 1976-1978 as parish priest at the Nongkhai Mission, Diocese of Udon Thani. From 1979-1981, he was rector of the Redemptorist Minor Seminary at Siracha district, Chon Buri province. From 1981-1987, he was parish priest at the Holy Redeemer Church in Bangkok. From 1987-1992, he was parish priest at Bannoi, Khonkaen, Udon Thani diocese. From 1993-2002, he was director of Social Work at Pattaya, Diocese of Chanthaburi. From 2005 till he became bishop, he was parish priest at St. Nikolaus parish, Pattaya, Chanthaburi diocese.

On Dec. 02, 2023, Pope Francis accepted the resignation from Bishop Philip Banchong Chaiyara.
