Bishop Francis Kallarakkal was born on Oct. 10, 1941 at Kottapuram in Thrissur district of Kerala. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1968. He was nominated Bishop of Kottapuram diocese on Aug. 1, 1987 and was consecrated on Oct. 4, 1987. Bishop Francis Kallarakkal is Vice Chairman of Kerala Catholic Bishop's Council (KCBC). He also serves as the Chairman of KCBC's Commission for Justice and Peace, Director of St. John's Medical College, Bangalore and is President of Kottapuram Integrated Development Society. He served the church in different capacities; he was the Chairman of Kerala Social Service Forum, Secretary to the Archbishop of Verapoly and the Director of Social Service Department of the Archdiocese of Verapoly. He was the Assistant Vicar at Pius X Church, Fairfield, USA.
On 20 Feb 2010, he was appointed as the Archbishop of Verapoly.
