Bishop Andreas Henrisoesanta, SCJ, was born in Ngijorejo village, Gunungkidul district, Yogyakarta Special Province, on June 7, 1935. He hailed from a migrant Catholic family with nine children who moved to Metro, now capital of Central Lampung district, Lampung province in southern Sumatra, in 1939. Henrisoesanta, the seventh, joined the Sacred Heart of Jesus congregation in 1956, and was ordained a priest on July 2, 1961, in SCJ "Leo Dehon" College Chapel in Rome by Bishop Faustinus Tissot. On June 10, 1966 he got his doctorate in Church Law from Gregorian Pontifical University, Rome. Pope Paul VI appointed him auxiliary bishop of Tanjungkarang on 29 August 1975, and was ordained Bishop of Tanjungkarang on Feb. 11, 1976. On Dec. 21, 1978, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tanjungkarang, and he was installed on April 18, 1979.
